NLNG Dividend Delay Hurting States, Says Makinde

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde criticized the delay in releasing NLNG dividend funds to states, stating each state was expected to receive ₦250 billion but the money would not be paid until after the 2027 elections. He said the delay is affecting subnational development plans, long-term infrastructure investment, states’ ability to sustain projects, and their response to rising costs of governance such as Oyo’s wage bill increasing from ₦4.5 billion monthly in 2019 to ₦18 billion in 2026.

Pidgin: Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde don criticize di delay wey dem dey do for releasing NLNG dividend money to states, im talk say each state suppose collect ₦250 billion but dem no go pay di money until after 2027 elections. Im say di delay dey affect subnational development plans, long-term infrastructure investment, states ability to sustain projects, and how dem go handle di rising costs of governance like Oyo wey im monthly wage bill don jump from ₦4.5 billion for 2019 to ₦18 billion for 2026.

How this affects you: States (including Oyo) are affected as the delay hinders their subnational development plans, long-term infrastructure investment, ability to sustain projects, and response to rising governance costs such as increased wage bills.
