Nigerian epidemiologists should lead Ebola response, expert tells FG

A senior Nigerian field epidemiologist, Dr. Peter Adewuyi, urged the Federal Government to let the country's 500 trained epidemiologists lead the response to the confirmed Ebola case in Abuja without relying on foreign specialists. He noted that while reporting and response were timely, detection took eight to nine days instead of the recommended seven under the 7-1-7 surveillance benchmark, and stressed the importance of thorough contact tracing including all hospital staff who interacted with the isolated patient.
