Education minister visits City Boy Movement office, urges members to explain skills and loan schemes

Education Minister Maruf Tunji Alausa visited the City Boy Movement's office in Abuja on Tuesday 27 October and asked its members to explain the government's education and skills policies to Nigerians. He also said he was confident President Bola Tinubu would win the 2027 election.

Eko Hot Blog reported that the minister was received at the movement's Abuja headquarters by Seyi Tinubu, the President's son, who is the movement's patron (the outlet calls him its Grand Patron). Details of the visit were also set out in a statement issued on Wednesday by Ikharo Attah, the minister's Special Adviser on Media and Communications, The Authority News reported.

Alausa urged members to keep up their community outreach and to help Nigerians understand the federal government's policies and programmes, The Authority News reported. He cautioned against misinformation and divisive rhetoric, and called on citizens to put the national interest first when discussing the country's future.

He cited the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), the student loan scheme, as one way the government is trying to reduce the cost barrier to higher education. He said students should not be denied the chance to study because their families cannot afford it.

He said more than 250,000 Nigerians are enrolled in technical and vocational education and training (TVET) programmes across about 1,200 training centres nationwide. According to him, the courses cover areas such as solar panel (photovoltaic) installation, fashion and garment production, carpentry, construction trades and animal husbandry, and are meant to link training to jobs and business. These are the minister's figures; ST Office has not independently checked them.

Alausa also said the President had kept a campaign promise that a four-year university course would last four years, Eko Hot Blog reported. “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will win because all the difficult decisions that he is taking, we will soon see it change, transform this country into an amazing place,” he said, according to the outlet. The visit comes as the administration presents its education record as part of its case for re-election, Eko Hot Blog noted.
